Junk and Recycling Services Volunteer:

Overview & Description of Need
 
Tails to Freedom, Inc. (T2F) @ Lucky Dog Thrift Shop (LDTS) at 23 Elm Street Nashua, NH 03060 is seeking a volunteer(s) with a vehicle to transport trash/recycling to the local Recycling Center on a weekly basis (preferably a Sunday or a Tuesday pickup for transport to the recycling center on a date of your choice. Trash only - no food waste involved.) Volunteers should be comfortable lifting and hauling trash containers. Out of this mission, Lucky Dog Thrift Shop was born as the fundraising headquarters to Tails to Freedom. We have assisted over 4,000 animals in need right here in New Hampshire since our Shop doors opened nearly thirteen years ago in May 2009. Lucky Dog Thrift Shop is a bargain hunter’s paradise. Located in downtown Nashua, NH our shop offers two floors of everything from fashion to furniture in a fun and relaxing environment. Our current operating hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9:00am-5:00pm.

Cashier/Sales Associate Summary

 

Weekly Hours: 15 to start; a potential for up to 40 hours.
Hourly Rate: $9-11/hour to start with a 90 day review.

Position overview

The Cashier/Sales Associate position is an essential role on our team. As the first person-of-contact at the shop we seek an individual that will make each individual feel welcome as they enter the building as well as uphold our professional standards. We are passionate about creating a positive memorable experience for our customers and employees thru aesthetic beauty, cleanliness and a friendly demeanor and to an ideal candidate these characteristics will be first nature.

Position Responsibilities

Manage POS system and conduct customer sales transactions.
Take payments, notify customers of credit card processing fee as utilized and make change
Opening and closing procedures including the register and setting up shop on the sidewalk.
Greet customers and announce sales, specials, etc.
Create, maintain and beautify displays.
Color code and organize clothing.
Oversee shop operations and maintain shop tidiness.
Tag and price clothing based on Shop guidelines.
Promote raffles, Pet of the Month and Gift Certificate sales.
Upselling to customers is required.
Answer phones according to Shop guidelines.
Maintain music and video playing.
Sweep/vacuum rugs every 30 minutes as needed.
Ensure there are no empty spaces on sales wall/ceiling for apparel.
Check clothes racks and sales floor for empty hangers and make sure clothes are displayed in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
Problem sensitivity (an ability to recognize problems before escalation).
Troubleshoot and solve customer concerns in a timely manner engaging management as necessary.
Take & direct emergency animal calls and inquiries. Ability to discern emergencies from non-emergencies.
Provide animal resources to individuals expressing interest or need including Spay/neuter resources, Veterinarian List, Financial Assistance Resources and Volunteer Opportunities.
Provide the Financial Assistance Application to clients requesting emergency Veterinary Bill assistance.
Oversee volunteers: ensure volunteer application is completed and rules are signed, sign-in and out, provide locker key, assign tasks and ensure completed with excellence.
Support and lead customers in their shopping experience.
Answer customer and co-worker inquiries.
Before a customer leaves empty handed inquire if there was something they were on the lookout for.
Awareness of one’s surroundings to ensure customers have unmet needs and shoplifters are deterred.
Bend, reach, twist and lift up to 50 pounds.

Position overview

We seek an individual for our Manager position that is a natural leader and excellent multitasker as you will be overseeing the direct daily functions of the shop, employees and volunteers – second in command to the Director. We are passionate about creating a positive memorable experience for our customers and employees thru aesthetic beauty, cleanliness and a friendly demeanor. Daily we receive phone calls and emails for animal medical emergencies from pet-owners who need financial and informational resources which the Manager will be responsible for screening and providing resources to. We have a wide variety of clientele from all walks of life and being socially perceptive is essential. Additionally, each day, we serve multitudes of customers and animals in and out of the shop yet primarily thru assisting on the sales floor.

Desired Characteristics

We need an individual who is approachable and energetic. We are looking for someone that is passionate about an excellent quality retail experience and has an eye for beautiful presentation and detail. We seek an individual whose personality compliments the team by being friendly, kind and dependable. In addition, we desire a Manager that is fast paced, ethical, leads by example and is capable of working independently. An excellent addition to our team would be someone that is an active listener who knows how much and when to speak, listen or redirect and is passionate about always improving by being extremely goal oriented. An excellent fit would be someone with a thirst for knowledge, inspired by a long to-do list and someone that has excellent customer service skills. We seek a Manager that takes initiative, has self-control and would describe themselves as having integrity.

Position Responsibilities

Supervise, direct/lead and motivate team members including staff, employees and volunteers with excellent communication;
Delegate people, items and resources;
Write a daily job list for sales associates and focus their activities;
Process and collect client payments to further expand upon our ability to aide animal families in need;
Have a thorough understanding of and ability to excellently execute all sales associate duties and responsibilities including (but not limited to) opening and closing procedures, greeting customers and announce sales, specials, etc., POS transactions, create and beautify displays, oversee shop operations, maintain shop tidiness, tag and price clothing, promote raffles, answer phones, maintain music and video playing, check clothes racks for empty hangers and make sure clothes are displayed in an aesthetically pleasing manner;
Collect, sort, price and distribute donations on sales floor;
Problem sensitivity (an ability to recognize problems before escalation); troubleshoot and solve customer and employee concerns in a timely manner;
Take & make emergency animal calls and inquiries. Ability to discern emergencies from non-emergencies and make electronic payments;
Update and maintain social media accounts and email;
Organize and execute fundraising events;
Oversee volunteers, create opportunities and bring in more volunteers;
Train new employees and volunteers;
Implement as well as create employee trainings/procedures;
Finalize Employee Handbook and other administrative tasks;
Maintain, update and organize office and backroom for ease of access.
