Kayla was the most faithful, loyal, loving.... Kayla's Story

This isn’t the typical happy ending, but it is the most positive experience in our given situation, all thanks to Tails of Freedom Inc.

Our time with our beloved Kayla began in 2015 when she was only 2 years old. I always say we saved Kayla, she didn’t have a good life prior to our home. Kayla was the most faithful, loyal, loving and cuddly dog anyone could have hoped for. She brought much love and joy to our lives.

Kayla became sick one night Halloween weekend, what seemed to be suddenly. We had no idea what was wrong with her. I thought maybe she ate something causing an upset stomach, she wasn’t herself at all. Kayla was not eating, drinking water or producing output. Kayla vomited a couple of times. She seemed very tired and would only lay down, not wanting to get up. She became more lethargic over the next day and was still showing the same symptoms, just worse at this point. I called the vet on Halloween night for Kayla to be seen in their urgent care. I thought maybe she had an obstruction of some sort.

Urgent care ran blood tests, x-rays and an ultrasound, delivering the most devastating news. Kayla had two masses, one in her intestine and another in her liver. The mass in the intestine had caused gastric perforation leading to sepsis infection.

Kayla never showed any signs of sickness before the night she suddenly seemed sick. Kayla always had good check-ups. Kayla never had any health issues. This was all so sudden, and it was too late. The urgent care visit was more than we could afford at this time, with all the tests that needed to be done in order to find out what was going on. I couldn’t be more grateful for Tails of Freedom Inc., helping us in our time of need. Recently diagnosed with cancer, our financial situation is not very good, this really eased the burden of the cost, and allowed us to pick Kayla up from the vet.

Once we picked Kayla up, she was still so lethargic, it was heartbreaking. I wanted us all to be able to say goodbye. We drove to pick up my son from school, after we all held her, and were able to say our goodbyes, Kayla sadly, passed away Nov. 01, 2021. The positive experience Tails of Freedom afforded us, was that chance to say goodbye to Kayla. Kayla seemed to be holding on, waiting for us. We feel so blessed we were able to say goodbye, and that she didn’t pass away alone.

Thank you Tails of Freedom Inc., you’ve truly made a difference in our lives.
Sincerely,  Kimberly and family
